Design secrets for creating a calming retreat
For this project, our focus was on capturing the thoughtful design principles and sensory qualities that define a calming architectural retreat. Working alongside Worrell Yeung, we explored how materiality, light, proportion and spatial rhythm come together to create environments that feel intuitive, grounded and serene. The film unfolds not as a traditional house tour but as a layered experience of space, texture and atmosphere, emphasising how subtle gestures - from framing views to modulating light - shape emotional engagement with place. The project was filmed using the RED Raptor and RED Komodo paired with Sigma Cine Zooms, with the DJI Mavic 4 Pro providing aerial perspectives that reveal the retreat’s relationship to its context and the broader landscape, reinforcing the quiet harmony between design and environment.
